A godly legacy is built step by step, beginning with a godly perspective. When we see life through God’s truth, it shapes our thinking, which then influences our choices. Our choices become our behavior, and over time, our behavior leaves a lasting legacy. The life of Joseph is a clear example of this process—because he trusted God and maintained the right perspective through difficult circumstances, he made godly decisions, lived faithfully, and became a blessing to many generations.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for reminding us that a godly legacy begins with a godly perspective. Help us to see life through Your truth and not through fear, pride, or worldly thinking. Renew our minds so that our thoughts, choices, and actions will honor You in every area of our lives. Teach us to trust You through every circumstance and remain faithful even in difficult seasons. May our lives reflect Your character and become a blessing to others, leaving behind a legacy that brings glory to Your name. a legacy that brings glory to Your name.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

EPHESIANS 3:18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God. 20 Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us,

Paul the Apostle prays that believers would understand the vastness of Christ’s love and experience the fullness of God. A right perspective is not natural to us; it must be shaped by God. When we truly know His love, we begin to see our lives differently—not through fear, pain, or limitations, but through God’s power and purpose. Paul reminds us that God is able to do far beyond what we ask or imagine. This means our trials, delays, and disappointments are never the end of the story because God’s plans are always greater than our understanding.

GENESIS 45

5 Now do not be grieved or angry with yourselves, because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life... 7 God sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant in the earth, and to keep you alive by a great deliverance.

Joseph acknowledged the sin of his brothers, yet he also recognized the sovereignty of God behind the events of his life. Joseph’s suffering was not meaningless. What others intended for harm, God used to preserve life and fulfill His purpose. This passage teaches that God remains actively involved in the lives of His people even during painful seasons. Problems may come through the wrong actions of others, but God is able to redirect suffering for His greater plan and for the good of many people.

1 PETER 1:6 In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials, 7 so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

Trials are presented as temporary but purposeful. Difficulties test the authenticity of faith the same way fire refines gold. God does not waste suffering; He uses it to purify hearts, strengthen dependence on Him, and produce spiritual maturity. Faith that survives testing becomes stronger, more genuine, and more honoring to Christ. Trials also remind believers that their deepest need is not comfort but closeness to Jesus.

1 PETER 4:19 Therefore, those also who suffer according to the will of God shall entrust their souls to a faithful Creator in doing what is right.

Suffering is connected with trusting God’s character. Believers are called to entrust themselves to a faithful Creator while continuing to do what is right. God’s faithfulness means that suffering is never intended to destroy His people. Even painful experiences are under His control and are used to shape character, deepen faith, and accomplish His purposes. Trusting God means believing His heart even when circumstances are difficult.

PSALM 27:13 I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living. 14 Wait for the Lord; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the Lord.

The psalmist chooses hope instead of despair because he believes he will see God’s goodness in this life. Waiting on the Lord is not passive resignation but confident expectation. God calls His people to remain courageous and steadfast while trusting His timing. Often people shift their trust from God to human solutions or circumstances, but true faith waits upon the Lord because He alone is faithful and dependable.

GENESIS 45:8 Now, therefore, it was not you who sent me here, but God; and He has made me a father to Pharaoh and lord of all his household and ruler over all the land of Egypt. 9 Hurry and go up to my father, and say to him, ‘Thus says your son Joseph, “God has made me lord of all Egypt; come down to me, do not delay... 11 There I will also provide for you, for there are still five years of famine to come, and you and your household and all that you have would be impoverished.” ’... 16 Now when the news was heard in Pharaoh’s house that Joseph’s brothers had come, it pleased Pharaoh and his servants.

Joseph recognized that his position and authority ultimately came from God. He understood leadership not as personal privilege but as stewardship. God raised Joseph to power so he could preserve lives and care for others during famine. The passage teaches that success, influence, and blessings are gifts entrusted by God for serving others. Everything belongs to the Lord, and His blessings are meant to flow through His people, not stop with them.

GENESIS 47:11 So Joseph settled his father and his brothers and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had ordered.

Joseph wisely used his position to provide for his family.

ROMANS 13:1 Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God.

All authority exists under God’s sovereign rule. Even imperfect or unfair authorities are ultimately accountable to Him.

PROVERBS 21:1 The king’s heart is like channels of water in the hand of the Lord;He turns it wherever He wishes.

God can direct the hearts of rulers according to His purposes. These passages remind believers that God is greater than every earthly authority and is able to overrule human decisions for His will to be accomplished.

GENESIS 45:24 So he sent his brothers away, and as they departed, he said to them, “Do not quarrel on the journey.”

GENESIS 42:17 So he put them all together in prison for three days... 21 Then they said to one another, “Truly we are guilty concerning our brother, because we saw the distress of his soul when he pleaded with us, yet we would not listen; therefore this distress has come upon us.” 22 Reuben answered them, saying, “Did I not tell you, ‘Do not sin against the boy’; and you would not listen? Now comes the reckoning for his blood.”

Joseph’s treatment of his brothers was not motivated by revenge but by wisdom and love. Their time in prison awakened their conscience and forced them to confront their past sin against Joseph. God used hardship to bring conviction and repentance. This reveals that transformation ultimately comes from God, not from human effort. Sometimes God allows people to experience the consequences of their actions so their hearts can change. Loving others does not always mean shielding them from correction; sometimes love allows God to work through discipline.

GENESIS 44:13 Then they tore their clothes, and when each man loaded his donkey, they returned to the city... 16 So Judah said, “What can we say to my lord? What can we speak? And how can we justify ourselves? God has found out the iniquity of your servants; behold, we are my lord’s slaves, both we and the one in whose possession the cup has been found.”... 31 when he sees that the lad is not with us, he will die. Thus your servants will bring the gray hair of your servant our father down to Sheol in sorrow... 33 Now, therefore, please let your servant remain instead of the lad a slave to my lord, and let the lad go up with his brothers.

The brothers demonstrated that their hearts had changed. Instead of abandoning Benjamin out of jealousy as they once did with Joseph, they stood together and showed concern for their father’s grief. Judah, who had once participated in selling Joseph, was now willing to sacrifice himself in Benjamin’s place. True repentance is seen not merely in words but in transformed attitudes and actions. God had changed selfish and jealous men into brothers willing to love sacrificially.

GENESIS 50:20 As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive. 21 So therefore, do not be afraid; I will provide for you and your little ones.” So he comforted them and spoke kindly to them.

Joseph summarized his entire life perspective: human beings may intend evil, but God is able to use even sinful actions to accomplish good purposes. God’s sovereignty is greater than human failure, injustice, and suffering. Rather than becoming bitter, Joseph chose forgiveness, compassion, and generosity because he trusted God’s greater plan. The result of God’s work in Joseph’s life was not only personal victory but the preservation and blessing of many others. God blesses His people so they may become channels of blessing to others.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for reminding that true wisdom and peace come from seeing life through Your perspective. Teach us to trust You even when we do not understand our circumstances. Help us to remember that You are always at work, even through trials, delays, disappointments, and difficulties.

Lord, give us a godly perspective — a heart that sees Your sovereignty above human actions, Your purpose above pain, and Your goodness above fear. Strengthen our faith when we are tested, and help us wait upon You with courage and hope. Keep us from bitterness, complaining, and unbelief, and teach us instead to trust Your love and faithfulness.

Thank You that You are able to turn what is meant for evil into good. Thank You that Your plans are always greater than our understanding. Use our lives, our blessings, our positions, and even our struggles to become a blessing to others and to bring glory to Your name.

May we continue to walk by faith, depend on You daily, and live with confidence that You are in control of all things.

In Jesus’ name we pray,

Amen.
