PRAYER
Heavenly Father,
We come before You with reverence, acknowledging the authority of Your Son, Jesus Christ, over all things—over life and death, over creation, and over every power in heaven and on earth. Thank You for revealing who He is, not only as our Savior but as our Lord, worthy of our full trust and obedience.
Lord, teach us what it truly means to follow Him. Shape our hearts so that our faith is not passive, but transforming. Remove fear from our lives and replace it with a deep awe of Jesus, knowing that all things are under His control. Help us to trust His power, rest in His love, and live in the light of the truth that we will one day stand before Him.
Thank You that His sacrifice was willing and full of grace, securing our salvation. May this truth move us to live with purpose—not for ourselves, but for Your mission. Give us boldness and compassion to make disciples, to lead others to Christ, and to walk alongside them in obedience.
Be with us now as we reflect on Your Word. Open our hearts to understand, to respond, and to be changed.
In the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and King,
Amen.
MARK 1:17 And Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”
Jesus’ call is both an invitation and a promise. Following Him is not passive; it results in transformation. He reshapes a person’s purpose from self-centered living into a mission that reaches others, making influence for God the natural outcome of a life aligned with Him.
MATTHEW 28:18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
This establishes the foundation for everything that follows: Jesus possesses complete authority over all existence. Because His authority is absolute, His commands carry ultimate weight and are not open to negotiation or selective obedience.
JOHN 5:21 For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son also gives life to whom He wishes. 22 For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son, 23 so that all will honor the Son even as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.
These verses reveal the divine equality between the Father and the Son. Jesus is not merely a messenger; He exercises the same life-giving power and judicial authority as God. Honoring Him is inseparable from honoring God, making one’s response to Jesus decisive and personal.
2 CORINTHIANS 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done…
Life is moving toward a moment of evaluation. Every action has significance, and nothing is ultimately hidden. This gives urgency and seriousness to how one lives, knowing that Christ Himself will assess each life.
MARK 4:39 And He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Hush, be still.” And the wind died down and it became perfectly calm... 41 They became very much afraid and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?”
Jesus’ authority extends over creation itself. His power is not symbolic but actual, commanding even the natural world. This reveals that fear should shift from circumstances to a reverent awe of who He is.
LUKE 4:36 …For with authority and power He commands the unclean spirits and they come out.”
Jesus' authority over the spiritual realm is immediate and unquestioned. Evil does not resist Him successfully, showing that His power is supreme and that fear of spiritual forces is unnecessary when one is under His authority.
LUKE 7:22 …the blind receive sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up…
Jesus demonstrates authority through restoration. His works show that He reverses brokenness and brings wholeness, confirming that His mission addresses both physical and spiritual needs.
JOHN 10:17 …I lay down My life so that I may take it again. 18 No one has taken it away from Me, but I lay it down on My own initiative. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again…
Jesus' death is an act of sovereign choice, not helplessness. This reveals both His control over life and His intentional love, showing that salvation is rooted in His willing sacrifice rather than human action.
MATTHEW 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Those who follow Jesus are given a clear mission: to reproduce disciples. This involves both initiating faith and nurturing obedience, with the assurance that His presence accompanies His people in this task.

1. Spiritually Dead. Separated from the Life of God
EPHESIANS 2:1 And you were dead in your trespasses and sins... 3 Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)... 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Apart from Christ, a person is spiritually dead, even if outwardly religious, living according to self rather than God. Salvation begins entirely with God’s mercy, who gives new life through Christ. It is received by faith as a gift, not earned by works, leaving no room for pride—only gratitude for His grace.
2. Infant. The Beginning of New Life in Christ
JOHN 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name,
New spiritual life begins by receiving Jesus through faith. This grants a new identity as a child of God, not earned but given, establishing a real relationship with Him.
ROMANS 8:9 However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.
A true believer is marked by the indwelling Spirit of Christ. His presence confirms belonging to Jesus, even though the struggle with sin continues.
1 JOHN 5:11 …God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.
Eternal life is inseparable from Jesus Himself. To have Him is to have life, making the relationship with Him the center of salvation.
COLOSSIANS 1:13 For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
Salvation brings a complete change of identity and allegiance. The believer is rescued, forgiven, and now belongs to Christ’s kingdom.
1 PETER 2:2 like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation,
Spiritual infancy requires nourishment. A genuine believer develops a hunger for God’s Word, and this desire drives growth toward maturity.
3. Immature. Growing Beyond Self-Centeredness
1 CORINTHIANS 3:1 And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual men, but as to men of flesh, as to infants in Christ... 3 for you are still fleshly. For since there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not fleshly, and are you not walking like mere men?
Spiritual immaturity is revealed by fleshly attitudes such as jealousy, strife, and self-centeredness. A believer may know truth yet still act like the world when not walking closely with God. True growth is seen not merely in knowledge, but in humility, consideration for others, and transformed behavior.
GALATIANS 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
Spiritual maturity is shown through the fruit of the Spirit. As a believer continually yields to God’s control, Christlike character gradually develops. Love, patience, self-control, and the other qualities listed are not artificial achievements, but the natural result of a life led by the Spirit.
4. Mature. Growing into Spiritual Stability
HEBREWS 5:12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers… and you have come to need milk and not solid food. 13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant. 14 But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil.
God’s desire is for believers to grow into maturity, not remain spiritual infants. A mature Christian moves beyond basic understanding and develops discernment through consistent obedience and practice. Spiritual growth requires training, application, and continual exposure to God’s truth, resulting in stability and the ability to distinguish good from evil.
5. Fishers of Men. Called to Make Disciples
MARK 1:17 And Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”
Following Jesus leads to transformation and purpose. He calls His followers not only to know Him, but also to influence others and lead them toward God.
MATTHEW 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Jesus commands believers to make disciples of all nations by sharing the gospel, leading people to faith, and teaching them to obey His Word. This mission is carried out with the assurance that His presence is always with His people.
The Glory of Christ and the Fulfillment of God’s Mission
PHILIPPIANS 2:10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Jesus’ lordship is universal and certain. One day every person will acknowledge His authority and confess that He is Lord, bringing glory to God the Father.
REVELATION 7:9 After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could count, from every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb…
God’s plan of salvation reaches every nation, tribe, and language. The final picture of redemption is a countless multitude united in worship before Christ, fulfilling His mission to make disciples of all peoples.
PRAYER.
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for reminding us who Jesus truly is—Lord over all creation, Savior of sinners, and King over every life. Thank You for Your grace that rescued us when we were spiritually dead and gave us new life through Christ.
Lord, help us not to remain immature in our faith, but to grow in obedience, discernment, and Christlike character. Create in us a hunger for Your Word and a willingness to practice what You teach us each day. Let the fruit of the Spirit be evident in our lives so that others may see Jesus in us.
Teach us to follow You faithfully and to become true fishers of men. Give us courage to share the gospel, compassion to make disciples, and wisdom to lead others toward spiritual maturity. Remind us that Your mission includes all nations, and that one day every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
May our lives bring glory to You until the day we stand before Your throne together with people from every tribe, tongue, and nation, worshiping You forever.
In the name of Jesus Christ,
Amen.
