Pray Like Jesus

But Jesus Himself would often slip away to the wilderness and pray.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the example of Jesus, who often withdrew to spend time with You in prayer. Teach us to value quiet moments with You above the noise and busyness of life. Give us the desire and discipline to seek You regularly, just as Jesus did. Renew our strength, guide our decisions, and deepen our intimacy with You as we spend time in Your presence.

In Jesus’ name we pray,

Amen.

LUKE 9:10 When the apostles returned, they gave an account to Him of all that they had done. Taking them with Him, He withdrew by Himself to a city called Bethsaida.

1. Enjoy Prayer

Jesus delighted in spending time with the Father. Just as people naturally find time for the things they love most, Jesus consistently made space for prayer. This shows that prayer was not a burden to Him but a joy. For us to experience that same delight, our relationship with God must be nurtured. As we abide in His Word and walk in obedience, our hearts gradually develop a deeper desire to be with Him. Prayer then becomes less of a duty and more of a treasured time of fellowship with God.

2. Be Recharged by Prayer

Prayer was also the place where Jesus renewed His strength. The word used for “withdrew” suggests stepping aside for a purposeful retreat. It was not an escape from responsibility but a moment to be refreshed before continuing His mission. In the same way, prayer restores our spiritual strength. When we bring our burdens, fatigue, and concerns to God, He renews our hearts and gives us the endurance needed to keep serving and fulfilling the work He has entrusted to us.

3. Prioritize Prayer

Jesus treated prayer as a necessity, not an afterthought. Even with constant demands from the crowds and the needs of His disciples, He intentionally set aside time to commune with the Father. This reveals that prayer was central to His life and ministry. If the Son of God relied on prayer to stay aligned with the Father’s will, we need it even more. By giving prayer a rightful place in our daily lives, we stay spiritually grounded and guided in everything we do.

LUKE 6:46 “Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?

In Scripture, there were people who honored the Lord with their words but failed to follow Him with their lives. They called Him “Lord,” yet their actions revealed that their hearts were not truly submitted to His authority. True devotion to Christ is not measured by what we say in prayer, but by our willingness to obey what He commands.

Prayer that is disconnected from obedience becomes hollow. God desires not only our words but also our surrendered lives. When we choose to obey His Word, we demonstrate that we truly acknowledge Him as Lord.

As our lives come into alignment with God’s will, prayer takes on a deeper meaning. It is no longer a religious obligation but a joyful fellowship with the One we love and follow. In that place of obedience, we begin to experience the sweetness and intimacy of genuine communion with Him.

LUKE 5:15 But the news about Him was spreading even farther, and large crowds were gathering to hear Him and to be healed of their sicknesses.

News about Jesus was spreading everywhere, and large crowds constantly gathered to hear His teaching and to be healed. There were countless needs to meet, places to go, and people seeking His attention. Yet even with such overwhelming demands, Jesus consistently made time to withdraw and pray. His commitment to prayer did not mean He ignored the crowds or neglected their needs. Rather, it reveals how essential prayer was to His life and ministry. Instead of allowing the busyness of His work to crowd out prayer, Jesus allowed prayer to guide and sustain His work. His example reminds us that the greater the demands placed upon us, the greater our need to seek God in prayer.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father,

We thank You for the example of our Lord Jesus Christ. Even when many people were seeking Him and the demands of ministry were great, He still made time to withdraw and pray. Through His life, You remind us how essential prayer is.

Lord, forgive us for the times when busyness and responsibilities have crowded out our time with You. Teach us to value Your presence more than the pressures around us. Help us to remember that true strength, wisdom, and direction come from spending time with You.

Give us the desire to seek You first, even when life is full of demands. Renew our hearts in Your presence, guide our decisions, and strengthen us to do the work You have entrusted to us.

May our lives reflect the same dependence on You that Jesus showed, so that everything we do will flow from a deep and abiding relationship with You.

In Jesus’ name we pray.

Amen. 🙏
